The story behind VH1 Storytellers is that great singer/songwriters tell a small audience the stories behind how they wrote their best known songs and then play them. The idea is to bring the musician to the viewer's home, and sing right to them. In 1998, Meatloaf agreed to record a Storytellers show, at the Metropolis Studios, New York City. With such great songs, and with Meat being such a vivid character, what better choice than this multi-platinum rock star. As Meatloaf doesn't write his own songs, Jim Steinman was also invited to record the show alongside. The show was amazing, the stories long, and the songs, even longer, but it worked. Meatloaf drew the studio audience into the show, into his songs, and into his world. In fact, the show was so good, Meatloaf decided to buy the set, and set off on the road. In 1991 he put together a VH1 Storytellers tour and hit the road!
